The cave was discovered by the explorers of spar, which is a fluxing agent used in the manufacture of glass and has been mined on a semi-industrial scale. At the time when limestone was mined from the quarry, the cave was used as an explosives storage. During this period stairs were built for easier access to the interior of the cave.
The “Kamieniołom Kielniki” geological path [blue signs] leads to the cave entrance.
The route begins on ul. Kościelna [historic granary] – the location of the trail signboard.
